Security, as one of the most critical and fundamental outcomes of power processes and relations, and as a geopolitical desideratum, is achieved through the actions and conflicts of various power actors. In other words, security is the ultimate product of competition and contention, resulting from either cooperation or rivalry among powers in the arena of power relations. One of the significant geopolitical pathways, which represents a noteworthy approach, is the power dynamics based on the principle of balance of power. Put differently, within the framework of the balance of power principle, the behaviors of power actors shape geopolitical relations, ultimately leading to a form of security. This security, depending on the prevailing paradigm and worldview of the powers, is defined differently, and consequently, the prerequisites and pathways to achieving it vary. What remains evident is that attaining this security is a universal goal and aspiration of all actors, achieved through interactions driven by the balance of power, leading to a relatively desirable outcome. Therefore, in this fundamental research, conducted within an interpretive paradigm and using a qualitative method, through the collection of documents and library resources, the foundations and principles governing geopolitical approaches to security and the balance of power are examined. The common ground of the limited desideratum (security) and the pathway to achieving it by power actors (regardless of their dominant ideological perspectives on power) will be delineated and elucidated.
