Abstract
In contemporary Iranology research, interdisciplinary studies that integrate various fields of knowledge create a new synthesis, enabling disciplines to complement each other, foster synergy, and generate novel knowledge. The psychological dimensions of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh have rarely been explored independently. Given that Persian literature throughout Iran’s history has served as a comprehensive reflection of the political, social, and especially cultural conditions of the land across different historical periods, studying it can provide a valuable treasure trove for understanding Iranian culture and producing new, indigenous theories. The Shahnameh, as a monumental repository of Iran’s cultural and civilizational heritage, holds significant potential in the field of Iranology for addressing contemporary issues and generating indigenous knowledge on psychological security. Happiness, as a component of Iranian cultural identity in the Shahnameh, can contribute to the development of knowledge on psychological security for Iranian society by integrating insights from psychology, political science, cultural sociology, and Persian literature. This study begins with the question: “What role can the Iranian cultural component of happiness in the Shahnameh play in ensuring the psychological security of society?” Employing a descriptive-analytical approach and inductive reasoning for analysis, the study identifies themes such as “theism, justice and fairness, pursuit of knowledge and expertise, wisdom, fame, generosity, the transient nature of the world, hope for life, life satisfaction, positive thinking, condemnation of materialism, social security, economic security, patience and resilience, Iranian culture, and other commendable ethical traits” as forming the basis of the research hypothesis.
